Superman and Batman Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words
Superman and Batman - Essay Example The superheroââ¬â¢s financial status raises another uniqueness. At the point when Batman is experiencing his regular citizen job as Bruce Wayne, he is an effective businessperson (a very rich person) while Clark Kent, Supermanââ¬â¢s modify sense of self, is only a normal essayist for a paper making an unobtrusive compensation. These distinctions make the conventional resident side of each character like someone flipped a switch. In any case, the distinctions don't end there, particularly with regards to their families and connections. It ought to likewise be noticed that Superman is raised by two guardians (despite the fact that not his own), while Batman is raised by his steward, Alfred Pennyworth, who he keeps on living with all through adulthood. Besides, Batman has an accomplice, the Boy Wonder, otherwise called Robin, to help him in his battle against wrongdoing, while Superman is consistently an exclusive show with no sidekick. The individuals the superheroes encircle themselves with are completely different. Another significant distinction between the two characters can be seen when taking a gander at the settings in which they were raised. Superman experienced childhood in the unassuming rustic setting of a Kansas ranch, while Batman experienced childhood in a rich way of life in a chateau, in the packed metropolitan territory known as Gotham City. These spots of their childhood are practically perfect inverses. Lastly, there are the physical and material contrasts between the two. Batman wears a veil, though the other caped crusader doesn't, as Supermanââ¬â¢s camouflage (or cover) is basically the glasses he wears and his geeky character as Clark Kent. Besides, Supermanââ¬â¢s sole methods for transportation is his flying capacity, though Batman principally utilizes his famous Batmobile to quickly get all around, also his other cutting edge rides, including a plane, helicopter, cruiser, and speedboat. Despite the fact that these distinctions may appear to be extraordinary in numbe r, they fail to measure up to the striking similitudes one can discover between the two by burrowing somewhat more profound. There are numerous resemblances shared between the caped crusaders. The principal key closeness to note between the superheroes is that both Superman and Batman were considered (in the creative mind) during the 1930s as comic book saints. The Dangers of Obedience to Authority: Writing and Reading Across the Cirriculum
As a kid growing up, everybody was told ââ¬Å"respect your eldersâ⬠or ââ¬Å"listen and obeyâ⬠. As youngsters develop into adolescents, they begin pushing the limits to see who they truly need to comply. All through adulthood, however individuals have less and less power figures as the years pass by, everybody must obey somebody. In spite of the fact that we as a whole have somebody to comply, when does the conscious dutifulness go too far into hazardous region? Submission becomes hazardous when it turns out to be truly or intellectually destructive to oneââ¬â¢s self or society.Physical maltreatment to oneââ¬â¢s self or someone else is risky, period. What is much all the more alarming is the point at which somebody harms themselves or others because of an authority figureââ¬â¢s direct effect on them. In the scandalous analyst, Stanley Milgramââ¬â¢s, analyze, individuals were advised to regulate stun to a friend for not responding to an inquiry accurately. This analysis shows the threats of obeying authority. In spite of the fact that the ââ¬Å"peersâ⬠were acting, the subjects completely accepted they were genuinely regulating stun to another human being. This demonstrates that the line between aware dutifulness to a power figure and a risky compliance to a dread striking pioneer is crossed when one individual starts or endeavors to harm oneââ¬â¢s self or another as a result of a frightful commitment put upon them. Some may contend that cops go too far when they utilize ââ¬Å"excessive forceâ⬠on a culprit since they are harming someone else because of the portrayal of their activity by the neighborhood government. While this is an admirable sentiment, if an official is compelled to make physical damage somebody, the individual in question has been incited by the wrongdoer and are essentially doing their job.Mental or psychological mistreatment is commonly not the primary thing a great many people consider when they hear th e word submission. In spite of the fact that it is a rarity indeed talked about, mental maltreatment happens frequently when a position figure manhandles their capacity to separate the mental hindrances that one may have so as to get the individual to comply. This strategy was utilized in the ââ¬Å"Stanford Prison Experimentâ⬠when the ââ¬Å"guardsâ⬠started calling the ââ¬Å"prisonersâ⬠by their numbers rather than names and allowed admission to the ââ¬Å"privileged cellâ⬠so as to keep up power over the detainees. In view of the mental games played by ome authority figures, the line among compliance and threat is crossed and can get hurtful to a personââ¬â¢s unbelievably delicate psychological wellness, making them have contemplations of self destruction or murder. Some may contend that psyche games are the most secure and least demanding approach to maintain structure and control when managing an individual of lesser position. In any case, mental fighti ng, for example, the brain games that were utilized in the ââ¬Å"Stanford Prison Experimentâ⬠, can leave a portion of the most exceedingly awful scars on an individual because of post horrendous pressure issue just as discouragement which can prompt suicide.Obedience to society isn't frequently thought of when managing this specific point. The intensity of a greater part is normally far disparaged. Similarly as appeared in the article ââ¬Å"The Power of Situationsâ⬠with the line test, the vast majority will supersede their own eyes to accept what they are told the dominant part accepts or thinks. Society can be a destructive substance when attempting to impact the majority. This announcement particularly applies when managing young people. For instance, when most young people are in a circumstance where they feel every other person is accomplishing something they know isn't right, they will ordinarily ââ¬Å"go with the flowâ⬠and follow what the group does.In an i nvestigation led by the ââ¬Å"D. A. R. E. â⬠bunch indicated that, while individuals who attempt to compel youngsters to smoke say ââ¬Å"everyone does itâ⬠, in reality just 11% percent of adolescents really smoke. Despite the fact that teenager smoking at all isn't acceptable, 11% is far superior to everybody. Some may express that acquiescence to society is advancing congruity which is useful for our equity framework just as business as usual. Be that as it may, the possibility that everybody must be the equivalent, think the equivalent, and have similar feelings isn't just tragic, yet in addition nips innovative intuition in the bud.Without imaginative scholars, how might our reality find in obscurity? Similarity is okay to a degree, yet when it blocks progress, it turns into a threat to society and people in the future. While a due regard and dutifulness ought to be given to power figures, compliance that gets unsafe, mentally or genuinely, to oneself or society all i n all, goes too far into the peril zone where it could hurt a real individual or the inventive contemplations inside that individual.

I who have nothing
I who have nothing DID YOU KNOW? In Renaissance Spain, when white skin was cultivated as a sign of royalty, princesses drank water from clay vases and then ate the clay, which would absorb all of the water in their bodies and give them a pale appearance. History has not recorded what happened to these princesses a few hours later. So this will be my last MITblog entry from Europe. Probably forever. Im just chilling here in my air-conditioned (!) hostel room, listening to the dude above me snore, and I thought that rather than reading all the entries at smashbros.com some for the bajillionth time, I should make good on my promise to write something from Spain in my last entry. I wanted to title this entry Now Im a little boy in Spain playing pianos filled with flames but it messed up the formatting on the MITblogs website, and also Ive been thinking a lot about the song I who have nothing, by Jordin Sparks, because Im totally done with all this MISTI reporting business. I have nothing! I mean, Im not done with the parts that involve getting all the videos off of the video camera, or organizing them, or summarizing all my data, or editing the video into good five-second quotes that can pop up dynamically when you roll over wienerschnitzel on the new Flash-enabled MISTI website or whatever. But, I mean, the actual taking pictures and videos of people, Im done with! Which is both good and bad. For one thing, it means I wont get to go around Europe hearing about peoples awesome jobs and taking pictures like this one of MISTI France intern Anjali 09, standing along the original Prime Meridian in the Observatory of Paris or this one, of MISTI Spain interns Sohrab 08 and Inessa 09 enjoying tapas at a Spanish tapas bar. I for one was shocked to discover that tapas actually exist outside of my eighth-grade Spanish textbook. Cacahuetes! However, being done with my MISTI reporting also means that I can stop living out of a 40-pound suitcase with a broken wheel, and start interacting with people on a real, personal basis again, instead of my conversations going something like, Oh, thats great that youre working with entamoeba histolytica! Is this your first time in Europe oh, wait, can I get a picture of you pipetting that? Or, I mean, with this microscope; whatever looks more science-y. I also have nothing in terms of money anymore. Im sort of going with the whole leave Europe with zero euros, that way you wont get screwed by airport exchange rates plan. So I have 6 euro-cents right now, and thats about it. Well, actually, I have about $20.58 in my pockets right now, but 50 cents of that are in Czech kroner and the other 20 are in US dollars, so, counting currency that Western Europe actually uses, I have 6 cents. And a Sub Klub card that I picked up at a Subway in Berlin. You know, I got Sub des Tages and Sub del Dia on this trip, but not Sub du Jour. Next time, Gadget. But I think Ive been rationing my money pretty carefully. After my last dinner with MISTI Spain interns last night, I gazed into my wallet to find a total of 6.86 in Euro. Then, in reference to the quote, When I get a little money, I buy books; and if any is left over, I buy food and clothing, which I saw on somebodys facebook profile, I spent my first three euros this morning at the Museo del Prado. I didnt even know what was at the Prado, I just thought it would be cool. But I kind of guessed that Las Meninas would be there, and it was, and I learned a lot about it eavesdropping on three separate English-language guided tours, and the museum also had a special exhibition on Patinir, who invented landscapes. After walking around the museum for five hours I was hungry, because six pieces of buttered toast at the hostels free breakfast just couldnt cut it, so I headed to the nearest Döner Kebap stand I could find, figuring that it would be a cheap way to get my last Döner fix for a long, long time. Thankfully, 3.00 euros is just about the universal standard price for Döner in Western Europe, so I was able to get a tasty sandwich with a slight Spanish flavor, but unfortunately drinks were a bank-breaking 1.20. Blast. So I went to a convenience store with no prices labeled. When the owner was done speaking in an unknown Asian language on his cell phone, I asked him how much a can of soda cost. After three attempts, I finally understood that he was saying ochenta. Perfecto. So I gave him a fifty, two tens, and two fives, and hoped that two years of MATLAB hadnt diminished my capacity for simple math too much. And then I had six cents left. OH MY STARS AND GARTERS, I just found out that the I buy books, then food quote is attributed to Desiderius Erasmus. Could this entry have any more organic unity? So, six cents. Six cents and a snoring roommate. I mean, I could use my credit card or something, but, well, ITS FREAKING SPAIN and even if I somehow find somewhere that takes a credit card and isnt touristy and overpriced, Ive still got extra charges for using it in a foreign country. Which, I mean, Im more ideologically opposed to than anything, because with what theyre paying me for this trip, I think I can spare 60 cents in extra charges. Theres also the possibility of finding a Deutsche Bank ATM, which is free for Bank of America customers, where I could pick up a quick 20 euros. But the catch is that I get free breakfast tomorrow (eight pieces of toast, two bowls of cornflakes, no questions asked), and then after checking out of my hostel and heading to the Madrid airport, I get my 15 euro key deposit back. So, while 15.06 is a little light for two days in Europe (Ive got a one-night layover in Frankfurt), I think that 35.06 might be a little too much. Oh, like a high school seniors relationship status after graduation, its complicated. Anyway, Ive gotten hungry since I started writing this entry, so its time to go do something about that. I cant wait to get home, and I promise to write tons of informative entries as a lame duck blogger from the US, both here and on my MISTI blog. Its been a long, crazy, exhausting ride here in Europe, but when you wake up and say to yourself, Hmmm I have an hour or two before work, I think Ill go take pictures of myself in front of Sacre Coeur. well, its hard to complain too much.
